I found an excellent powder substitute. 100% natural powder of the Yucca Schidigera plant. 

Inflammation is the root of many evils. Reducing inflammation will help the body heal better. When steroids or NSAIDs (rimadyl, deramaxx) are recommended, this might be an alternative which works without side effects. It also reduces pain as well as aspirin without the gastric side effects. Yucca contains steroidal saponins - nature's most powerful anti-inflammatory agents.

Yucca cleanses organs, promoting blood flow and tissue repair. It can also reduce the 'itch' of allergies. Yucca can also help with dogs who eat poop - coprophagia.

Mix in with food. Start slowly, as Yucca can initially cause diarrhea. Over 50 lbs: 1/4 tsp (500 mgs) initially. Then up to 1/2 tsp (1000 mgs) twice a day. You can go to 3 times a day for an acute situation. 

This is a human grade product, so you can take it too. 

Once inflammation or other issues have subsided for an extended time, you can discontinue the yucca. But, if inflammation occurs quickly after not using the Yucca, then keep the dog on the product, as they need it.
