Almost Home for Hounds

Almost Home for Hounds (AHH) is a halfway home for greyhounds whose racing careers have never started, or are over. My Beauty surveys the 80 acres where AHH would reside.

Currently, this 5000 square foot steel frame is home for hounds until all rehabilitation work is done, and adoption groups have a spot for them.

It features Surgery, Isolation, Play, Laundry and Crate rooms, with turnouts, garage and storage.

Dr. Heather Weir, a Colorado State University veterinarian professor, is the on-premise, volunteer, primary caretaker, while also keeping her day job. For the past five years, she has retrieved over 800 greyhounds from farms, vetted and socialized them, and then transported them to adoption groups who find them loving homes. AHH ensures more greyhounds have a safe haven before going into forever homes. She is able to do this with the help of generous donors.

Recently a fire destroyed the double-wide where visitors stayed when volunteering, and rested before hitting the road with dogs for adoption groups. No one was hurt. But it is a set back.

Spread the word about greyhounds as pets. Help out at Meet & Greets. Have decals on your car. Have business cards with you when you walk your greyhound. Adopt more than one. Every greyhound who makes it to a home helps make this world a better place.
