May 2008 - I've just arrived at Greyhound Gang. It's been a very long journey. I'm told I only have one journey left - to my forever home. I'm missing my buddy Jessie, who is still at Best Friends. She's been my rock. Maybe once I feel a little more secure, I'll start talking about my past. I just had a bath, and I'm a beautiful, rough, but soft coated, white gal, with a little fawn around the face and tail area. I've had puppies. I'm not so sure about this house thing. The car was OK. I really like other dogs, as they make me feel secure. I'm not so sure about people just yet. I'm a solid girl at 72 lbs. I am cat and little dog safe, as I don't have an aggressive bone in my body. I did wag my tail and lick Claudia's hand today. She knows I just need some time and love. Contact Best Friends at 435-644-2001, or email Kristi, for adoption info. Email Claudia for more pictures or questions.
June 2008 - I'm really liking this house thing now, particularly the dog door. If someone I don't know visits, I can go outside, and check them out first. I love the car because it takes me for hikes everyday with all the other dogs. This whole love thing, though, I'm still a bit wary of. I see all the other hounds running up to Claudia and getting kisses and hugs and pets. I have let her do that to me once in a while, and it's not bad, but I'm just not sure. Today I barked, and talked at her, telling her at 6 am in the morning that it was time to go on our hike. She ignored me. She doesn't often do that, as she's always talking to me. I do follow her from room to room, as it's important to me to be part of the pack. And she's obviously in charge of everyone.
July 2008 - I'm pretty happy. I do what I want when I want. I often tell Claudia when she's not waking up in time to take us all for our hike. She still hasn't got with the 6 am program, but I'm working on it. I also tell her when it's time to feed me. She's very accommodating. I love jumping on her bed, and hanging out there. I don't even mind when Claudia loves on me when I'm on her bed. I understand that if I'm going to be on the bed, that is the payment. I went away to a strange place for a nine days when Claudia and Clyde, Power and Isabelle went away. Everything was new, and somewhat scary, but I tried to fit it. Thank goodness there were lots of other dogs around. They make me feel good. People, not so much. I was really glad to get back to Claudia's. I've been nicer to her since then. I let her walk by me without running away. I even let her pet me without bolting all the time now. Today I went up to her, and licked her fingers. I know she knows I'm trying.
August 2008 - Claudia tells me many people think I'm beautiful and are interested in me. She also tells me how special I am, and that a really special family will come along to love me. In the meantime, I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the mornings. I jump around, and air snap at Claudia, and bark at her, and tell her to get shaking, and let me in the car and let's get to the Canyon where I can run free. I'm a happy girl. But still not really trusting of anyone. Just in today: My new family is coming from Florida to take me home this month. They have another sighthound that looks just like me. They are very experienced in dealing with greyhounds and sighthounds that take a little more time to trust humans. They have a dog door, and a big fenced yard, and no children. Claudia says it's a primo A plus home, and I'm a lucky gal. Whatever. In the meantime, I'll just keep bossing Claudia around.
From Claudia - Kenzie needs a quiet home with other big dogs, and very patient, understanding humans. She is very wary of humans and personal contact. With time, she definitely will trust and love. A dog door would be very helpful, and a fenced yard a must. Noticing and accepting the small steps she takes is important. For instance, after two months in my home, she laid next to my computer chair, and let me pet her as I faced her, without licking her lips, tensing up, and running off when I stopped touching her. She is truly starting to trust and accept love. But it will take time, and the person adopting her needs to understand that she will not show love and affection easily or readily. But when she shows it she will be yours. She is definitely a sighthound mix - probably some greyhound, borzoi and maybe even Irish Wolfhound in her heritage. We think around four years old.

Jessie came to Best Friends with Kenzie. A stunning sighthound mix, with a sweet face, and a sassy coat, she was initially more out-going. However, she's gotten a little more reticient with people now, a little less trusting. This will change when she's got a home that accepts her, and loves her and gives her time. She is a gal that likes to be in charge in a pack situation. She is not cat safe. She's only 58 lbs, and probably around 5 - 6 years of age. Part of her physical beauty is a lovely feathered tail and back end, which could indicate some Borzoi in her. Separated now from all she has known, she's sad and hoping someone will love her soon. DEE -This gal is one big love muffin. Soft and plush, like your favorite stuffed polar bear, this white blonde beauty is 8-1/2 yrs young and looking to give love. She's fine with little dogs, cats and females, though takes exceptions to boys that get 'too familiar' with her without her permission. Since she was used for breeding, I think she's probably just saying - I'm just not that into you. Is your home the home to lavish all the attention on her she deserves? She's in Vegas. Call Janice at 702-565-8892.

Deezy - She just a baby still at 14 months, but what a perfect girl she is. Not one bad habit, and just loves to play and give love. If you will let her, she'll climb into your lap and curl up and sleep there. She's cat safe, and LOVES to play as all the youngsters do.

Lisa - A more independent girl, at 2 years of age, she's scoping out what living in a home is all about, and isn't going to show her true colors until she feels she can trust. She's a discriminating gal, and picks and choses her friends carefully. Pretty and petite, she's wondering if you're the home to that will choose her, so she can show you just how loving she can be. Cat Safe.

ZIP is a beautiful brindle female who celebrates her 11th birthday in May. Zip had a memorable racing career and then retired to a farm in the Midwest. Zip came to GPA-Northwest a few years ago and enjoyed retirement with her adopter for quite some time. Upon the death of her owner late last year, Zip was returned to GPA-Northwest so that she could find a new home for her final years. Zip is in excellent medical condition. Zip instantly warms the hearts of everyone who meets her and gets along with everyone – canine or feline. The twinkle in her eye seems to sparkle a little brighter when she hears her theme song – “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay, My, oh my what a wonderful day! Plenty of sunshine heading my way, Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay!” Her song truly sums up her whole attitude. Contact Carol thru email or call at 800-366-1472.

JOCK is a 6 ½-year-old white with brindle male who came to GPA-Northwest originally from Juarez. Due to changes in his adoptive family, Jock has returned to us to find a new home. Jock also has a lush soft coat, walks great on a leash, loves to play with toys and does best with another dog in the home. Known as “Jolly Jock-a-roo” to his foster family, he is definitely a “keeper” is their estimation. Everyone who meets Jock falls in love with him and Jock loves nothing more than to rest his head in a lap for rubs and scratches. Jock needs a home free of little dogs and cats. Jock is in tip-top shape. Contact Carol at GPA-NW or call at 800-366-1472.
ARNOLD is a beautiful 10 year old who spent many of his years reigning as king of his racing kennel. Arnold is now enjoying playing with the two older female Greyhounds in his foster home. He is in fantastic shape, enjoys walks and conspiring with the other Greyhounds to get treats. Arnold would not mind sharing his living space with a feline or two. Contact Carol thru email or call at 800-366-1472.

AL is a handsome gentleman who will be 10 in July. Al was returned to GPA-Northwest to find a new home due to changes in his family. Al has always shared a home with another Greyhound and seems to enjoy their company. He loves to play with squeaky toys, walks on the beach, and just being with his people. He is very well behaved and being a quick learner, knows several commands. Al needs a home where there are no cats and, due to a recent pinched nerve in his neck, should avoid stairs. BLONDIE is a 6-year-old red fawn beauty. She doesn’t have a clue that she’s six and loves to be in the midst of activity. Blondie, contrary to most Greyhounds, is a bit of a watch dog and she’s vigilant about patrolling the yard for squirrels. Blondie is very affectionate and gets along fine with the male Greyhound in her foster family. Blondie can be a bit bossy with other females and finds cats to be much too appetizing. She is in wonderful shape. Blondie has damage to one eye from an infection earlier in her life, but she has no vision deficit and her eye drops are continuing to be decreased. Contact Carol thru email or call at 800-366-1472.

DUSTY is a white with blue brindle female who will be 7 in July. Dusty has a soft, lush coat and loves nothing more than a good belly rub. She is very affectionate and loving, gets along great with other dogs. She loves to play with toys, go for walks and cuddle up with her person. She’s quite inquisitive and loves to investigate new things. Dusty needs a home without cats. Dusty has no known medical issues. Contact Carol thru email or call at 800-366-1472.

ROSIE is an 8-year-old white with red female who had a litter of puppies following the end of her racing career. Rosie is a loveable clepto who likes to collect things around her. Rosie can be a bit bossy at initial introductions to other Greyhounds, but she lives comfortably with both male and female Greyhounds in her foster home. Rosie has also lived with cats and small dogs successfully. Rosie was born with an overbite, which didn’t get in the way of eating, but did cause damage to her teeth. She has lost a number of teeth and has gingivitis, so she needs constant attention to her teeth. Contact Carol thru email or call at 800-366-1472.

TYNY is not at all what her name implies. Tyny is a statuesque white with brindle female, blessed with plenty of energy for a 6-year-old. Tyny is affectionate and thinks the best place for her head is in her person’s lap so it can be petted. When she gets excited Tyny will jump straight up in the air. Tyny is a fun Greyhound who needs a home without cats (she considers them to be her arch enemy). She loves to run laps in her backyard and playing with any toy that squeaks. Tyny lives in a foster home with other Greyhounds and has no medical issues. Contact Carol thru email or call at 800-366-1472.

Almost Home for Hounds has many many dogs needing homes. These pictures are representative of the dogs there. It is always changing. There are also many, many young ones, that haven't been handled, and so are a long term opportunity. If homes aren't found, they never get a chance at love.
If you have room in your heart or home, and live in:
I'm happy to help with any questions, just email me.
Mariah, now a year and a half, has been at AHH since she was 6 weeks old. She has a blind eye, but it doesn't stop her from playing and being very affectionate. She's the kind of gal that doesn't like PDA, but will lavish affection on you on her terms. She'd be a great only dog, or with an active male mixed breed. She has a gorgeous masked face, and still has the long hair of puppiness. She's a tall, big boned gal, and all greyhound. Will you be the one to fall in love with her.
Another long termer at AHH, Star feels safest in her crate even after six months. Such a pretty fawn girl, now almost two, she still gets so scared, that she'll pee if anyone other than Dr. Weir tries to touch her. She's just asking for someone to understand her, give her time, and love her. A break through recently occurred, when during turn-out, she actually jumped up and touched Dr. Weir's back. That's what these shy ones do, they want to approach you, but they don't want you to see them. Are you a patient person, who sees the little improvements, and can wait for the bigger ones? We hope to find the person that will let Star's light shine.

Crumpet is a waif of a hound, at only about 40 lbs. Fun, silly and affectionate, as only a one and a half year old can be, she's just waiting for her home. She had parvo, but is all recovered.
Another very bashful hound, Boston has graduated to the living room at Almost Home for Hounds. She won't run out of the room, if she recognizes you, but if you are a stranger, she'll dash out the dog door. She did allow her photo to be taken though, and she really just needs an understanding home with other dogs to help her know love.

Another beautiful, bashful hound, Sierra has been at AHH for over a year. She will approach people she knows, albiet tentatively. She just needs an understanding home, with other out-going hounds, that will let her blossom in her own time.

Crumpet's sister, she's a silly, happy, ready to go into a home 18 month old greyhound. Petite, at about 40 lbs, adorable in everything she does, she will need lots of exercise, as she's a youngster.
Some hounds come from farms without names or history. It's a blank slate for them, but the future holds only goodness. Bid in the Gang's Auction for a chance to give one of these hounds a name so their lives can start anew.
NOTE: The Greyhound Gang is currently fundraising to help the over 50 hounds at Almost Home for Hounds and so we are not directly placing many greyhounds, except some very special ones. However, we do refer to these groups in our area, and are happy to answer any questions.
